Butterfly Lovers, The Musical

April 15, 2007

Ever heard of the Chinese equivalent of Romeo & Juliet? I watched part of the movie in Astro but didn’t know it is the Chinese version of Romeo & Juliet. It movie was in black & white and it is supposed to be one of the saddest love story.

The storyline is set in China in 265 – 420AD, where a young girl went against tradition and disguised herself as a man in order to obtain education in a school. While she was in school, she fell in love with a fellow schoolmate who was oblivious to her gender and intentions, despite the many hints she dropped for him. The young man eventually knew the truth, but it was too late as she was already on her way to be married to another….

I was in Genting on Friday night for the first show of the Butterfly Lovers, The Musical in Genting International Showroom. It was a marvelous show, and I am glad to add to my limited knowledge of the Chinese legends.

I didn’t know I have watched part of this story in Astro until the part where Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai met while they are on the way to school.

The play started with Zhu Yingtai disguised as a man to fool his father into allowing her to study in the school.

This is the part where Liang Shanbo finally found out that Yingtai’s parents had her marriage arranged.

Liang Shanbo eventually died in office due to depression, and Zhu Yingtai, on the day of her marriage, commited suicide and jumped into the tomb of Liang Shanbo.

According to the story, while on the way to the bridegroom’s house, the boat that they travelled on stopped at Liang Shanbo’s tomb, and couldn’t move any further due to the strong winds and waves. There were also thunder and lightnings. Zhu Yingtai was overcame by sadness and when a thunder striked the tomb, it opened up. Zhu Yingtai then jumped into the tomb. The thunder striked the tomb again and it closed, burying Zhu Yingtai together with Liang Shanbo. It was believed that they reincarnated into a pair of butterflies.

And finally all the casts and backstage staff coming out for a round of applause.

The Dancing Diva Concert

December 13, 2006

If you loves dancing, and you missed the Dancing Diva concert last Saturday (9/12/06), you can  begin to doubt your love of dancing. Lol… And when it comes to dancing, my girlfriend is definitely not one who will miss it. So there we were at Jolin’s concert last Saturday.

Amid the early downpour that left us scurrying to Giant Kelana Jaya to purchase umbrella, it did not break the spirit of the 15 000 fans who has came from near and afar to watch Jolin’s performing. Luckily the rain stopped before the concert starts, and umbrellas are not allowed into the stadium. Lol… Well, luckily we’re told about that and left our umbrella in the car.

Overall, the concert is great, but somehow I felt something is lacking. Not sure what it is. Perhaps it’s the crowd who were rather inactive. Except for the occasional screaming… I think Jolin would have enjoyed the crowds in Hong Kong or Taiwan more. Perhaps we are the prawn sandwich brigade of concerts. Hahaha…

Anyway, it was a fun night, and a bit sad when it’s over. Because we’re not allowed to bring in cameras, here are some shots taken with Sony Ericsson k705i.

Jolin enters the stage from the roof top… ala gymnastic style.

This is the clearest shot I managed.

Forgot what song she’s singing, but it was one of the nicest performance that night.

And lastly, Wu Niang after the crowd screamed for encore! Same shit in every concert. Lol…

Miss Malaysia Tourism 2006 Grand Final

July 24, 2006

The Miss Malaysia Tourism 2006 was held last Saturday (22 July) at Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel Grand Ballroom. Though it’s not as glamourous as the Miss Malaysia World, but it was an entertaining night. There are a lot of room to improve, I think.

Anyway, here are some of the snapshots from the event. Well, I was there to enjoy the show, not as a photographer, so these pics were taken as in when I feel like it, and some of the pics are a bit blurry, no thanks to my sister’s Olympus u-Digital 600. I have only one word to describe the camera – useless. Should have used my trusty old Canon A60 Powershot instead. *thumbs up*

A bit malas to add description lah… maklumlah, I am not good at news reporting. Hahaha…

My partner for the night… and the rest of my life…

My lovely niece, whom I brought along, thanks to my MD’s wife absent. Hehehe…

And the show begins…

The beauties introduction… wearing Carven Ong’s creations…

My manager, Sam, presenting the Miss Characteristic award…

And that’s Amber Chia, one of the judges for the night…

There you go… the 2nd Runner Up…Florinda Johnson…

The 1st Runner Up… Felixia Yeap… whom I think deserve to win as well… 😉

And the winner is Brenda Chew…

Spot Hannah Tan in there as well!! She looks amazing that night!!

All the best to Brenda as we believe she will represent Malaysia well in the Miss Tourism International which will be held in China.
